There are fears violent outbursts will increase in WA's overcrowded jails this summer after a melee at Casurina prison in which three officers were injured.

The Department of Corrective Services said two inmates became disruptive yesterday morning after refusing to comply with a routine cell search. Two of the three officers were sent home and it is understood one had head injuries that required a CT scan.

A recent draft report by Inspector of Custodial Services Neil Morgan likend conditions in WA's packed jails to the tensions before the Christmas Day Riot at Casurina a decade ago. He warned that cramming too many prisoners...read full article below!
